Grenada 2018 (canceled)

Explore the Caribbean island of Grenada with the Urban Ecology Center this November! This fall eco-excursion will journey to beautiful beaches, pristine lakes, and picturesque waterfalls. We’ll explore national parks, tour cocoa plantations, help conduct tree boa and frog research, snorkel and dive in some of the best waters in the Caribbean, and wrap it up with a fish fry festival sure to rival any Friday in Milwaukee!

Known as the "island of spice" because of its large production of nutmeg and mace crops, Grenada is the largest island in the Grenadines chain of 32 islands and cays.

Participate in field research with biologists from Southeast Wisconsin who have been working there for more than a decade. We’ll learn about the spiders, endangered tree boas, and tree frogs endemic to Grenada. Explore unique mangrove ecosystems by kayak as we sail through turquoise waters filled with sponges and sea stars. Hikers will delight as we discover the amazing waterfalls and beautiful trails of Grand Etang National Park.

Join us on the island of Carriacou where we will help restore a bird sanctuary by planting mangroves along the shore. From there we will snorkel with sea turtles, boat past famous movie islands, and enjoy a picnic lunch on the beach.

Much more festive than a Milwaukee Friday fish fry, we’ll celebrate our final Friday in Grenada at the Gouyave Fish Fry as local musicians and merchants add to the lively ambiance. Rum distilleries, chocolate factories, spice plantations, and local markets! This journey is perfect for adventurous spirits.
