What We Do

Winter Equipment Lending Online Reservations

Borrow our equipment this season!

In response to COVID-19 restrictions and with the safety of our members and staff in mind, we have developed a contactless curbside equipment lending option for Winter 2020.

Beginning the week of December 7th we will be offering winter equipment lending at all three branches!

Cross country skis, sleds, and snowshoes will be available for curbside pickup. (Plus ice skates at WP!)

Below is the schedule of availability for each branch:

  • Riverside Park: Thursday* through Tuesday loans (Pick-up/drop-off window: 10 am – 4 pm)
  • Menomonee Valley: Friday to Monday loans **
    (Pick-up/drop-off window: 2 pm – 6 pm)
  • Washington Park: Wednesday to Tuesday loans
    (Pick-up/drop-off window: 2 pm - 5 pm)

Equipment must be reserved ahead of time. No walk-ins.  Skis and snowshoes cannot be loaned out for local use if there are less than 2 inches of snow on the ground.

Pickup days: Thursday* at Riverside, Friday** at Menomonee Valley, and Thursday at Washington Park.

*During the weeks of the Christmas and New Year holidays, pick-up will be on Wednesday instead of Thursday at Riverside Park.

**No pick-ups on Dec 25 or Jan 1

Here are some tips for success:

Reserve online ahead of time! Our winter items are popular and equipment goes fast – make sure you are reserving online ahead of time.

Check equipment status. Check to make sure you have everything you need and that the equipment is in good working order before you leave the Center.

Ask for advice! Need advice on where to go or how to use the equipment? Check out this list of recommendations from staff member Chad Thomack.

Why do you lend your equipment?

We offer this unique and exceptional benefit to our members for three main reasons:

We want to get you outside!
We love helping people have positive outdoor experiences and want to make it easy for you.

We hear the landfills are just filled with old snowshoes and gardening tools.
As a way to limit consumption, we provide our equipment lending program to encourage the use of shared resources in our community.

We don't have sugar.
Remember when you had to borrow a cup of sugar (or milk, or doughnuts) from your neighbor? Well, just substitute "skis" for "cup of sugar." We're really just trying to be a good neighbor. A neighbor who shares lots of stuff.

What can I borrow?

Click below for a complete list of equipment available to borrow at each of our three branches. *Not all equipment will be available during this time due to COVID restrictions.

How much can I borrow with my Contributing Membership?

Due to high demand and safety precautions this season, we are asking members to limit reservations to once a month.
