Girl Scout Badge Workshops

The Urban Ecology Center is excited to partner with
Girl Scouts of Wisconsin Southeast and offer Girl Scout Daisy, Brownie, and Junior Badge Workshops! 

Participants must be enrolled in Girl Scouts to attend. By participating in a workshop, girls are guaranteed to complete the entire badge. All workshops take place at Urban Ecology Center's Riverside Park branch.

Daisy (Grades K-1)

Daisy Outdoor Art Maker Badge 

From blue sky to a bird’s song, nature can give you lots of ideas for art! In this workshop, girls will make a colorful painting outdoors and go on an outdoor nature hunt to find nature sounds in the park. Bring your hiking shoes and creativity! (For Girl Scout Daisies | Program length: 1.5 hours)

Daisy Eco Learner Badge

Nature is full of fun and surprises! Girls will become nature detectives using magnify glasses while looking for living plants and creatures in Riverside Park. We’ll play a fun game of show-and-tell to prepare for the hike. Be ready to have some fun outside! (For Girl Scout Daisies | Program length: 1.5 hours)

Brownie (Grades 2-3)

Brownie Outdoor Art Creator Badge

Nature is full of art and inspiration! Girls will go on a nature hike and make beautiful leaf rubbings. While outside we’ll play a fun nature dance game and design a beautiful picture inspired by the outdoors. Bring your hiking shoes and creativity! (For Girl Scout Brownies | Program length: 2 hours)

Brownie Outdoor Adventurer Badge

Have you ever explored nature at night? Grab your flashlight and hiking shoes as we explore Riverside Park at night! Girls will go on a night hike, play a night game and learn how to prepare a campfire. Of course, we’ll end the night by roasting marshmallows over the campfire! (For Girl Scout Brownies | Program length: 2 hours)

Brownie Bugs Badge

Girls looking at a butterfly through a magnify glassBugs are amazing so join us as we find bugs in Riverside Park! Girls will take a bug hike and use magnify glasses to search for bugs under logs and leaves. We’ll explore bug homes and make a bug craft to take home. Come prepared to go outside and have some fun! (For Girl Scout Brownies | Program length: 2 hours)

Brownie Hiker Badge 

Put on your hiking shoes and grab your water bottle for this active workshop. Girls will carefully plan their hike by learning how to read a map, pack a delicious snack and choose the right gear to bring. We’ll even go on a fun scavenger hunt while hiking the trails. (For Girl Scout Brownies | Program length: 1.5 hours)

Brownie Eco Friend Badge

Nature needs you and you need nature! Girls will go on a guided nature hike while looking for animal houses. We’ll also learn how to build a campfire and safely put it out. Bring your love for nature and hiking shoes as we learn how to be kind to others when outdoors! (For Girl Scout Brownies | Program length: 1.5 hours)

Junior (Grades 4-5)

Junior Outdoor Art Explorer Badge

Flowers made from recycled paper

Let nature be your inspiration as you explore, create and design different kinds of art! Girls will begin outside by exploring outdoor art and make music with items found in nature. We’ll make salt dough and art impressions too! At the end of the workshop girls will have a chance to make a terrarium to enjoy at home. (For Girl Scout Juniors | Program length: 2 hours)

Junior Flowers Badge

Not only are flowers beautiful but they are also an important part of an ecosystem! Girls will go on a flower hunt through Riverside Park stopping to investigate flowers on the way. We’ll create a flower bouquet made out of recycled materials and a beautiful native flower arrangement to take home. (For Girl Scout Juniors | Program length: 2 hours)


Pricing Information

All of the Girl Scout Workshops take place at the Riverside Park location. Please allow us a 2-week notice to book a Workshop. Pricing for a Workshop is $200 for 10 Girl Scouts. $5 for each additional Girl Scout and maximum 20 Girl Scouts.


Additional things to note 

  • All workshops take place at our Riverside Park branch (1500 E. Park Pl., Milwaukee WI 53212)
  • For all workshops Girl Scouts are encouraged to bring hiking shoes, appropriate outdoor clothing and a water bottle. Dress for the weather because we will go outside rain or shine!
  • Only registered Girl Scouts are allowed to participate in the Urban Ecology Center Girl Scout Workshops.
  • Adults must walk their Girl Scout into the Urban Ecology Center for check-in.
  • Adults must come into the Urban Ecology Center to pick up their Girl Scout at the end of the workshop
  • Adults are not required to stay for the workshop but are welcome to stay on a first-come-first served basis.
  • The Urban Ecology Center will not provide the physical badge.

Citizen Science Spring Workshops

The Center's program is really hopping (and swimming and wriggling and flying)! We are monitoring everything from mammals to frogs to moths. We need you! If you are interested in becoming a community scientist and helping us collect data in the park or analyze that data, please attend one of the monitoring workshops listed below. All of the workshops are free and are held at our Riverside Park branch.
