Paddling Programs

This summer, the Urban Ecology Center is excited to offer a wide variety of canoeing and kayaking events! We've got something for everyone, from beginners to advanced paddlers. Explore Milwaukee's wonderful summer events and waterways by boat with us! Check out our program schedule below.

Full Moon Canoe  

Canoeing on the Milwaukee River under a full moon

With the full moon above and reflected city lights below, paddle down the Milwaukee River. See the city and the full moon as you never have before! Meet at the Milwaukee Rowing Club Boathouse @ 1900 N. Commerce St.

River Rhythms Paddle 

Canoeing under a bridge at dusk

End your day with a cool paddle and concert. Canoe with us to Pere Marquette Park's River Rhythms summer music series. Bring a blanket, picnic foods and drinks. Equipment provided. Registration required 24 hours in advance of each trip. Meet at the Milwaukee Rowing Club Boathouse @ 1900 N. Commerce St.

For adults and families | Adults: $15 (Nonmembers: $20) Paddling kids: $7 (Nonmembers: $9) Kids under 10 who do not paddle: Free

Fox River Late Night Paddle

Paddle under the moon on the Fox River. We'll launch near Mukwonago and end at Tischigan Lake. Yes, it's late and yes, it's far away, but believe us this experience is worth it! All equipment and transportation provided. Dress warm and bring a snack. Weather dependent. Registration is required by Thursday, August at 10 a.m.

Downtown Milwaukee Late Night Kayak

Join us for a Milwaukee River paddling experience as we kayak down river from the Milwaukee Rowing Club Boathouse (1990 N Commerce St.). We’ll start with basic paddling techniques and water safety, then hit the water. We don't plan on getting wet, but dress comfortably in waterproof or quick drying clothing in case of splashes! Boats, paddles and PFDs provided. Weather dependent. Space is limited and registration is required.

Kayak Outing to Village Park 

Paddling on a beautiful river

Get out of the city and explore the Milwaukee River by kayak. Our trip will begin and end at Village Park in Thiensville. Learn basic paddling instruction, water safety then hit the water. Transportation from Riverside Park, boats, paddles and PFDs provided. Space is limited and registration is required. Weather dependent and bring a lunch.

Coffee & Canoe!

What better way to enjoy your Sunday morning than to sip on coffee and canoe down the Milwaukee River? Meet us at the Rowing Club (1990 N. Commerce Street) and we’ll have morning beverages and treats to get you fueled up before you canoe!

Washington Park Lagoon

The Washington Park Lagoon is a beautiful, calm and spacious body of water – a great place to learn the basics of canoeing! Learn how to choose the right equipment, boating safety and paddling technique, then practice with guidance from one of our trained educators. Perfect for those who are new to paddling or just want some more practice.

For adults and accompanied children age 6 and up | Adults: $10 (Nonmembers: $12) Children: $8 (Nonmembers: $10)

Family Fish and Paddle

Combine two great activities for an afternoon of fun! Learn the basics of fishing and canoeing, then paddle with us out to the deepest parts of the lagoon and see what we can catch. No paddling or angling experience necessary. All equipment provided. Fishing license required for ages 16 and up.

For adults and accompanied children age 6 and up | Adults: $10 (Nonmembers: $12) Children: $8 (Nonmembers: $10)
