Join us to learn how to conduct your own trash audit and discuss going plastic-free! What are nurdles? How does microplastic enter the waterways? Can we solve the plastic problem? Join Meenal Atre, the co-founder of Plastic-Free MKE, to learn about “the plastic problem” and how to effectively reduce the use of single-use plastic from our households, communities, and ecosystems. Dive into your trash for a trash audit and make actionable changes to immediately reduce the use of plastics.

Build Your Own Vermicompost

Looking for some inside, year-round composting options? Looking no further than your very own vermicompost system. Using the power of worms, you can have a sustainable way to compost most of your food scraps and turn them into rich soil to use in your home gardening. We will look into the ins and outs of maintaining your vermicompost system along with taking the time to build your very own! Materials are included with the cost of the program.

Backyard beekeeping is a great way to boost pollination in your own garden and your local ecosystem. 

In this program, you'll join Riverside Park Branch Manager (and avid backyard beekeeper) Chris Steinkamp to learn about honeybees and peek inside an actively managed hive. We'll talk about honey bee habitats, life cycles, colony behavior, and what humans are still discovering about these social pollinators.
