Come and enjoy Washington Park and the magic of ice skating outdoors on the lagoon in the winter time! Our skates are based on European sizes, but we have charts to make it easy to find skates for you and your family. New in 2020: play a friendly game of pickup hockey by borrowing hockey sticks, pucks and goals through your equipment lending benefit!
Frequently Asked Questions about Ice Skates
When can I go skating?
Like all equipment lending at Washington Park, skates are available during our public hours: Tuesday-Friday from 12-6 PM and Saturday from 9 AM – 5 PM. The Lagoon doesn't usually freeze thick enough for skating until January or February.
How do you know if the ice is safe?
We regularly test the ice at Washington Park and follow Milwaukee County Park standards to ensure that it is thick enough for skating. We also allow skating only in the tested (and cleared off) area. We take safety very seriously and if we have any doubts we will not allow skating on the lagoon. Please call ahead (344-5460) to determine if skating is available.
What size skates do you have available?
We have plenty of skates available for kids and adults, women and men. We even have double bladed skates available for young children… perfect for learning to skate!
