Celebrate Menomonee Valley's First Year

Our Menomonee Valley branch is one year old – time to celebrate! Join us on Saturday, September 7th as we take a look back at our past year and explore Three Bridges Park!

It's been a busy and exciting first year that included school programs, summer camps and the opening of Milwaukee's newest park! We thought it be fun to take a look at our past year and share some of our favorite memories. Check back as we will be updating this page until Saturday's celebration!

I think my favorite memory from this last year was looking around at the Grand Opening of Three Bridges Park, and thinking, “Oh my gosh, this is really happening! This rail yard is now a park where people are walking and talking and laughing and doing yoga and dancing and drumming!” I think that event encapsulated everything I love about the work we do at the Center: collaboration, creativity, community engagement, an amazing staff, and tons of people having fun outside, right in the middle of the city!

I have two favorite memories. And both of them happened at the Branch's Grand Opening. The first was the feeling that I got when I watched Ken Leinbach and Laura Bray (Executive Directors of the Urban Ecology Center and the Menomonee Valley Partners respectively) celebrate with the community who had worked so hard for that day. They were giddy with the excitement.

My second memory was watching children and youth playing and learning in the Menomonee River. To me it was the reason we were celebrating in the first place. Watching kids experience nature for the first (or the 10th or the hundredth) time is one of my favorite parts of working at the Urban Ecology Center.

Join us for part or all of the day! Click here for a complete schedule of the activities.

Be sure to look for our Photo Phenology Exhibit which offers a pictorial view of the Menomonee Valley. Come see how the Valley has changed over the past year.

At 10am join us for a Menomonee Valley Bird walk. We'll look for migratory and resident birds and compare our findings to data we collected a year ago.

Rather bike than walk? Come by at 2pm for a bike ride through Three Bridges Park.
