A note about cost

For some, this intensive will seem expensive, for others, it is a deal. It all depends on one’s base for comparison. The price is set where it is, with intention, for four reasons:

The instructors have been doing this work for many years (decades in some cases) and will be teaching from this practical experience. In short, you are getting the best instructors in the field of urban environmental education.

We are looking for people who are serious about the potential of establishing a Center. Joining this intensive is a commitment that will add to the quality of experience for all involved

Creating a Center is an entrepreneurial venture and requires creative methods to make it a reality. It's an investment. Share the status of your funding in your application. We're here to help.

If you are invested in learning at the Intensive, we think your learning – from topics regarding raising money to strategic partnerships – will multiply its financial value to you, and support your vision.

This learning will be most valuable to groups who want to replicate
the Urban Ecology Center model.
Our price per person decreases as the size of the group increases.

Solo or group of 2

$3,500 per person

Group of 3 or more

$3,100 per person

A light continental breakfast will be provided each day, along with lunch. Dinner will be provided Monday and Thursday as part of celebrating the opening and the close of the week. Dinner is on your own Tuesday and Wednesday. Favorite local restaurant options will be shared by UEC members.

We recommend booking at the Astor Hotel or Knickerbocker Hotel for their proximity to the Center. A variety of AirBnb and homestay options are also available in the area. We’re happy to loan you a bike for commuting! If you are interested in a homestay, please contact This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

We recommend that you fly in to Milwaukee’s General Mitchell International Airport (MKE) or Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport (ORD). If you fly into Chicago, we recommend using the Coach Bus service to travel from Chicago to Milwaukee. Arrive Monday, July 22 at Milwaukee’s General Mitchell airport and depart Friday, July 26 after the program and we will provide you a ride.

Fundraising Ideas

Milwaukee is on the shores of Lake Michigan, the third largest of the great lakes when measured by surface area. Visiting the lakefront is a must during your stay. The heart of downtown straddles three rivers – the Milwaukee, the Menomonee and the Kinnickinnic (We’ll teach you how to pronounce these when you visit!). The city also has sunny restaurant patios and live music in the parks to enjoy.

Applications accepted February 1 - June 15, 2019
